5 Common WooCommerce Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

Avoid these pitfalls that trip up new store owners and cost them time and money.

After helping hundreds of store owners, I've seen the same mistakes over and over. Here are the top five and how to avoid them.

Mistake #1: Not setting up proper tax rates. Many new stores ignore taxes until they get a letter from their state. Use a plugin like TaxJar or configure manual rates based on your location.

Mistake #2: Using a generic theme. A theme not built for ecommerce can break your checkout or look terrible on mobile. Stick with a WooCommerce-compatible theme or use our dedicated template.

Mistake #3: Forgetting to test the checkout flow. I've seen stores where the 'Add to Cart' button doesn't work because of a plugin conflict. Always test with a real credit card (use Stripe test mode).

Mistake #4: Ignoring product page SEO. Your product titles and descriptions should include keywords customers actually search for. Use Yoast SEO or Rank Math to optimize each page.

Mistake #5: Not backing up your site before making changes. A simple plugin update can break your store. Use a backup plugin like UpdraftPlus and schedule weekly backups.

Avoid these mistakes, and your launch will be smooth and profitable.
